Doug Dugger: The Chaplin of Country Music

When Doug was just a boy of 5 or 6 he used to sit on the porch of their ranch outside of Tarkio, Missouri playing his banjo (his dad taught him to play) singin' his heart out ("Keep On The Sunny Side Of Life") and waiting for an "audience" to come along and "discover" him. At 7 or 8 Doug and his dad began entering local amateur contests were he was a natural performer and entertainer. When Doug was 14 or so, his family moved back to Springfield, MO (his birthplace). Doug joined the Navy in 1943 (17 years old) and served until his honorable discharge in 1946.

After leaving the Navy Doug and his wife moved to Missoula, Montana. One evening, at the coaxing of his wife, Doug went to T. Texas Tyler's show at the American Legion Club in Missoula. During one of the breaks, Doug and some of the band members began talking. They invited Doug to "jam" with them after the show. Doug said "Sure!" T. Texas Tyler hired Doug on the spot!

While touring with T. Texas Tyler as his bass player, Doug had the opportunity to jam with so many of the great entertainers and musicians of the day. Some of them were Benny Goodman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, etc. Doug toured with T. Texas Tyler until 1956.

Then, in 1956 Doug went back to Springfield, Missouri and signed on with Top Talent, Inc. who booked the talent for the Ozark Jubilee. Doug played on Ozark Jubilee shows all over the country. Doug released "Bummin Around" and "The Deck of Cards" in 1956. He's played the top Country Music shows all over the world.

Here are some nice things a couple of Doug's longtime friends Homer Joy and Claude Gray say about him: "It's always a pleasure to see what we know as a real professional appear on stage! When he moves up to the microphone, you somehow know that it's a natural part of his life, and his millionth time with an audience!

Doug comes from an era when a singer also had to entertain. Who is it that doesn't remember the LEGENDARY Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, T. Texas Tyler, Lefty Frizzel, Ernest Tubb, or Jim Reeves...SUPER STARS... George Jones, Hank Snow, Kitty Wells, Faron Young, Marvin Rainwater or Porter Wagoner...The FOUNDING FATHERS of Country Music...Roy Acuff, Bob Wills and Red Foley...Doug Dugger not only remembers each one of these giants of Country Music, but knew each of them PERSONALLY, as a sideman, a music promoter, an opening act... and trusted friend.

Recording his own hit records like, "Deck of Cards," or "Bummin' Around," writing works of inspiration in major country music magazines as "The Chaplain of Country Music" traveling the world booking major artists and promoting country music... for over 50 years, Doug Dugger has played a part in the success of the country music industry...

When you see Doug Dugger on stage, it's more than a performance. It's a rare experience. You become a part of a time and place that will never be again. It's the life stores of legends, the songs of legends, passed on to you PERSONALLY... by a LEGEND...
